Cubic boron nitride (CBN- Cubic boron nitride) is synthesized as a crystal from hexagonal boron nitride with a metal catalyst, at a temperature of about 1,500C and a pressure of about 100,000kgf/cm2, giving a crystalline structure. strong, hard, block-shaped with sharp corners. It is one of the hardest materials used in mechanical cutting tools. CBN was first synthesized in the late 1950s and up to now, they are widely used in machine building, especially in applications such as grinding, hard turning... with the following typical properties:
- Extremely high hardness, second only to diamond.
- High thermal conductivity.
- Extremely good abrasion resistance.
- Has good chemical inertness.
Because of its high hardness, high thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance and chemical inertness, CBN grinding heads are often used for cold cutting and are chemically resistant to all inorganic salts and organic compounds.
